Our founder, Carrie Nightingale, is currently in Florida on a specialist training program where she'll be teaching survival skills to infants from an early age.  Follow the journey on Instagram & Facebook & sign up to our Waiting List below to be the first to hear about when these classes will be launched!

Starfish 1 is our Basic Training Course for infants 6 months & up.  Children will learn appropriate swimming postures to allow them to swim face down in the water, rotate onto their back to a floating position that enables them to rest and breathe, then return to a facedown swimming posture. This sequence of swim-float-swim can be continued until a desired location is reached. This important skill will prepare your child should he/she accidentally fall into the water.

Children also learn to swim between adults, pool steps and the pool edge for fun and recreation.

  • For fast skill development, basic training lessons are scheduled five (5) days a week, for approximately 4 weeks, depending on the student’s previous swimming experience. Completion time for these skills is dependent on consistency in lesson attendance.
  • After a child can successfully complete the swim-float-swim sequence on their own, the basic training instructor simulates a full clothes check out. The clothes check out gives the child practice and experience falling into the water wearing winter clothes and shoes. Once the child has excelled in this area, they may go on to maintenance or stroke development.

Once your child has completed Starfish 1 and can happily demonstrate swimming and floating, they will go to Starfish 2.   Starfish 2 is for children ages 7 months to 3 years.

After successful completion of the Starfish 1 course, your child will move on to Starfish 2 for optimal skill retention.  These maintenance lessons are a great way to keep your child’s skills sharp.  Maintaining aquatic safety skills is an important aspect of your child’s swimming progression.

If your child has not had lessons in an extended period of time, a Refresher Course will ensure your child is the independent, confident swimmer he/she was at the end of the Starfish 1 course. A refresher course generally lasts a couple of days to three weeks depending on the age of the child and amount of time since the child last swam.
